photographer party

February 26th, 2006

I went to a rockin house party on Thursday, full of amazing photographers.  It was an intense time, and a great chance to see lots of friends (and of course a hot tub visit to top it off).  Looking back, it’s pretty incredible the amount of photographic talent that was under one roof that night.  Here are some of the rockstars…
1 – Me with Mike Colon
2 – Me and Becker (image pulled off of B’s blog)
3 – David Jay and I representin
4 – Me with Garrett and Joy Nudd (two of my all time favorite people to be around)
5 – The beautiful Crystal Goss with me
6 – Me with Nathan and Amber Holritz (photographers – check these two out)
7 – Tim Halberg always makes it a party!
8 – I can’t wait to rock a party with Mike Buoy and TJ Cameron again ;)
9 – Me and JT Pals

for his eyes….

February 25th, 2006

I love it when clients pick more than one day of coverage, as it always gives me a better chance to get to know them on a personal level.  Most of the time it’s an engagement shoot, rehearsal dinner, or day after brunch…. but once in a while I get something a little special like a "for his eyes only" shoot.

I got the chance to spend a lot of time with my good friend Alisha Nelson this week, and while she’s a photographer I still got the chance to have a little fun with a shoot between us.  Thanks so much for being a good model Alisha, it was an amazing experience getting to shoot together :)  Here are a couple samples (hey, it is for his eyes only by definition!)…

Wow, those shots of Alisha are amazing. I’m really diggin’ #’s 1&2. Great work. Not like that’s a surprise hehe.

Glad to see you made it home safe and sound bro.

I think Alisha has at least four new avatars to choose from!! ;)

thanks to Greg and Frank

February 19th, 2006

I had the chance to shoot with Greg Bumatay and Frank DiMeo at the wedding on Saturday, and it was such a pleasure.  Thanks again you two for such an amazing experience.  Greg is one of the fastest rising stars in Orange County (Cali) and Frank is a nationally recognized photographer in the Finger Lakes…. and the 3 of us taking the opportunity to collaborate together was just incredible.  People at the wedding were just buzzing when Greg displayed the slideshow, and the energy was just intense.

Thanks again guys, the experience was incredible.

congrats to Camille and Daniel

February 19th, 2006

As I mentioned in a previous post, this is an insanely busy week but I had the chance to photograph Camille and Dan’s wedding yesterday… and it was truly amazing.  The location had a ton of character, was really special, the vibe was totally loving, and Camille gave us sooo much to work with!  Thank you both for letting me be part of your special day, and here is a small sample I want to post for everyone to enjoy…

busy week with updates

February 18th, 2006

This week I am spending a lot of time with friends and photographers to really dial in my business and shooting for the upcoming season.  This week is going to be an intensive like atmosphere, with all sorts of the best photographers I know to talk about everything from shooting to business and everything in between.  The product list I want to add for all my couples just keeps getting longer and more amazing, I can’t wait to start offereing some of these products!!

Anyway, it’s going to be a super busy week and I’ll try and update as much as I possibly can.  Today Frank and I met some new friends Sam (in the white) and Robert (Frank’s date).  Spent the whole day together and made it real interesting.  Tonight we are with our friend Greg (who is a super fast rising photographer in LA) going over a lot of products and ideas we all are sharing.  Saturday and Sunday we’ll be doing some shooting and I’ll have some updates.

Thanks everyone, and stay tuned for some fresh work and products :)

thanks to all the people who’ve emailed

February 14th, 2006

Thanks to everyone who has emailed me about the workshop on Saturday… over 75% of the people who attended have now sent an email within 72 hours of the workshop.  That’s impressive!!

I appreciate the kind words, and am seriously just as motivated (if not more) by you all as you are by me.  And yes I was being serious by offering up some opportunities regarding second shooting to people.  As you undoubtedly remember, one of my key points was to be proactive in your passion for wedding photography….. so the emails are a great start.  Second shooting is a great next step :)  Let’s get shooting together everyone!

I should be doing a bridal fashion shoot with Jenny in April in the upstate area… if some of you are interested in coming along and shooting or seeing how I do a shoot outside a wedding please feel free to come along.  Just let me know if you are interested.  The amazingly beautiful Jenny is below (the pressure is on now Jenny!!!)….

NYC bridal shoot cancelled

February 13th, 2006

Due to the 22 inches of snow that was just dropped on NYC, my 2 shoots there this week have been rescheduled.  I was looking forward to having some new images on the blog for everyone, but rest assured that next week I’ll have some new images with a little bit nicer weather.

In the mean time here are a couple images that I love from this past season that I just sent off to several magazines.

workshop was a TOTAL success

February 11th, 2006

Thank you all for coming out today and making the workshop such a success!!  I really appreciate it so much, and I’m glad we were all able to walk away with such an inspiring experience.  The attendance was good and the attitude was even better, it was interactive and the energy and ideas being discussed at the workshop were amazing.  I know everyone, myself included, benefitted from this workshop and I’m so glad it ended up being such a positive experience.

As I mentioned during the workshop, for those of you who were there please feel free to follow up and send emails or phone calls.  Being proactive (or aggressive) is strongly encouraged of course ;-)

Special thanks to Frank DiMeo for the photography below and to Robert Kaussner for the special guest introduction (and their great knowledge and contribution as well).

Now that I’m back from Cleveland in one piece (thanks, snow) I can comment… I am so glad I made it down for the workshop, it was really outstanding Luke! It was also great to meet everyone- hopefully we’ll all get together soon and I won’t have to run off so quickly. :)
Looking forward to the start of the season…

  2. Jefferson Todd:

Looks and sounds like a lot of fun Luke!! Wish I could have been there.

one of the reasons I do what I do…

February 6th, 2006

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I really like to do some fashion and various other 4_18creative work in the "off-season" to help keep my creative juices flowing and to help my work keep its edge.  Well as I’ve gone over a couple recent sessions I can’t help but laugh as I see the images…. while many of them are beautiful I can’t help but get a series like the ones to the left.  It’s just my personality and the atmosphere I create 5_18when I shoot, I think I want to have a good time and the people around me see it and let their guard down.  While it’s great for weddings, engagements, day after shoots, etc…. it’s not really all that wanted in fields like fashion.  But even so I can’t keep a totally serious atmosphere when I shoot, I have to have fun and it’s contagious!

I come from the photojournalistic school of thought and beliefs, and while I still believe in them and love them for the most part, I also believe there is something extremely special when a subject and photographer can create a mood, feeling, atmosphere, just an understanding.  I think that balance of documentation mixed with some comfortable candor can produce the real essence of people.

In case you are interested in seeing more from the session, here are some more images (photographers feel free to contact me if you’d like to work with Stacy)….

final workshop update for photographers

February 2nd, 2006

This is the final reminder that my workshop will be taking place at the Community Darkrooms in Syracuse on Saturday, Feb. 11th from noon to 3pm.  I’m not trying to push this or anything, but when I stopped in there last night to have a drink with my friend Emily Cavaco I had a couple people ask me "when is your workshop again?"  So I just want to make sure the people who want to come can’t blame me if they miss it! :P

Call Erica at 315.443.2450 and tell her to hook you up!
