picture of the week

July 28th, 2006

This week’s entry is inspired by an email I received the other day from a mother of the bride from a wedding last year.  Katie’s mother, Sue, was someone I got to know throughout the wedding process and when I heard from her I knew I wanted to use an image from Katie and Ralph’s wedding for my next entry.

The entry from this week is one of my favorites from 2005 for a couple reasons.  The first is the overall feel I get from this image…. the emotion of Katie and Ralph, touching noses, the contrast of the image, the couple in the background in the same pose.  It just has an overall romantic feel to it.  As I mentioned though the couple in the background doing the same exact pose is what really first caught my eye in this series of images, and this image instantly became one of my favorite dance shots.

Sue told me Katie and Ralph are now living in Washington so best of luck to you both out on the West Coast :)

This will forever be my favorite image of Katie and Ralph, seconded (is that a word?!) by their Oswego engagement piggyback pose. You sure know how to capture the moment Luke!Incredible…

  2. Garrett Nudd:

Killer shot, Luke! It’s almost like they’re in front of a mirror. Nice.

  3. Colleen Donovan:

I love the tones in this picture! So pretty! Where in Washington did they move to?

  4. Susan Cerretani:

Katie and Ralph are living in Tacoma, Washington. Ralph is in the army and is stationed at Fort Lewis.

congrats to Stacey and Dan

July 23rd, 2006

I had the honor of photographing Stacey and Dan’s beautiful wedding right outside Ithaca yesterday.  Unfortunately we were hoping for some better weather than a flash flood warning, but as always we totally made the best of what we were given and had a lot of fun.  We even used the wet, glossy, saturated vegetation to our advantage once the rain finally stopped to create some very cool images.  Thank you so much you two and enjoy the images!

2nd annual lakehouse get together

July 20th, 2006

For those of you who don’t know I will be up at the lakehouse for the next month (approx.) instead of the studio, and will only be back and forth for the occasional "studio day" or on Saturday’s (obviously).  And with the vacation means the annual photographer get together of feasting, jet skis, swimming, more feasting, flipping into the water, and generally anything else that comes along with getting grow up kids together for a day of fun at the lake house.  Enjoy some laughs at the expense of myself, Frank DiMeo, Robert Kaussner, Matt and Sarah Antonio, and Brady Dillsworth

picture of the week

July 18th, 2006

This week’s entry comes from Monica and Tushar’s wedding last year.  This wedding was one of the most emotional events I’ve ever photographed.  In the picture below there is actually a tradition going on outside after the ceremony where Monica comes out and her family gives her away to
the groom’s family (symbolically).  I was warned it would be
powerful and emotional…. but wow.  I remember I actually started to
tear up and had to look away from my viewfinder for a moment
and glanced over at the videographer (who was Mary Beth)…. who had tears running down her
face as well.  It was especially powerful because the parents are supposed to give Monica away but unfortunately Monica’s parents passed before the wedding.  So instead of the mother and father giving Monica away her brother had to take their place, and that made it even more emotional.

I love this image so much because I always re-live part of that day when I see it.  Monica’s brother was a tall, strong, handsome man and Monica almost always has a smile on her face (one of those people that just makes you smile because she are smiling).  So to see them both broken down, and to see the people in the background all uniformly dead serious and looking on…. the image just conveys the emotion and feeling that surrounded that moment for me.  And I know I say it was my honor to photograph such and such event a lot of times, but I truly hope people to get see whey I say that when I show them some behind the scenes moments and experiences like this.

    Luke,
I must say..you my friend are “on the money”, with this shot.

I have coordinated a ton of weddings in my day..and this by far..hands down..was one of the very most emotional moments for everyone standing present including myself, who has developed a pretty thick skin for these events. I mean, Every ounce of effort that anyone put forward into Monica and Tushar’s wedding knows that it came down to this ONE moment. From the guests in the background to the sister-in-law observing closely, to the groom holding the door open (bottom left corner)..to the auntie in blue..who quickly turns away to shed a few tears herself..to the amazing photography team who managed to hold their composure during this shot..

    Luke..
you are one in a million..my friend..

I wish you and your team..many more years of success.

    Your partner in time,

congrats to Liz and John

July 16th, 2006

I had the honor of photographing Liz and John’s wedding yesterday in the southern NY area.  I’ve had the chance to get together with Liz and John on a couple different occasions and I knew the wedding was going to be great.  All the flooding in that area really made things tricky (ok Liz that probably is an understatement) in the weeks prior to the wedding, but every time we spoke Liz was laughing and John’s email with the schedule had an upbeat note.  And for all you couples out there that might not be the easiest thing to do when you’ve had to change the rehearsal dinner location 3 times and had to move the ceremony to a different church a couple weeks before the wedding!  But they both handled it in stride and I was proud to document their wedding yesterday.  Here are some of the images…

Bella Figura

July 15th, 2006

I received an invitation yesterday afternoon from my couple getting married on August 19th this year, and I just wanted to share a little about it.  Megan was stoked to get these invitations done and I have to admit, after receiving it I now know why.  This invitation is beautiful!!  The company that did them is called Bella Figura and is actually based here in Upstate NY.  They obviously do amazing work and Megan’s is a prime example.  Check these guys out if you are don’t have invitations done yet.

picture of the week

July 14th, 2006

This weeks picture of the week entry comes from an e-shoot.  I had this shot in mind for a while before we actually set out to do it that day.  I’ve driven by this mural numerous times and everytime I do I notice that all the cartoon animals in the background are looking downward in one direction.  Actually, to be quite honest there is an animal to their right and it looks like they are all staring at his ass, but I’m not really sure what that’s all about.  Anyway, considering all the animals are looking downward in one direction I just always thought it would be a killer shot to have a couple in that area so everything in the background went to them.  Because of the playfulness of the shot (considering the background is cartoon book characters), I also wanted a pose that was something a little fun and unusual.  I didn’t actually set this pose up, but Frank and I shot this for a while before I finally got the look that I wanted from them.  I also oversaturated the eyes to really make sure they jumped out of the image, I want even the casual observer to see them, the background, and the eyes focusing on the couple.  Everything brings the viewer back to the couple.  Instead of the other cartoon character’s butt.  LOL sorry I’m really not joking I swear.

Anyway, here is this week’s picture of the week…

paper brides

July 13th, 2006

When we were at Morgan’s parent’s house on Saturday I saw this large booked on her dresser, and I just had to get a picture with it.  The book was called "wedding of the paper dolls" and was the coolest book ever!  It was all these paper doll people and outfits for the paper doll people, plus the paper was almost like old construction paper so it was real tough and grainy.  It looked real retro too, I have to admit I was super jealous.  The brides flowers are a little weird though aren’t they?

thank you tim

July 13th, 2006

I had the pleasure, once again, last weekend of having a guest shooter come join me at my wedding.  My friend Tim Co. came all the way up from Orlando to rock out together at Morgan and John’s wedding.  We had a great time together and Tim captured some great images.  Thanks so much for coming out Tim, and for getting some awesome images!! :)  Come up again soon my friend…

voss water

July 12th, 2006

I love to offer people several different beverage options when they stop by the studio, and the most popular option by far is bottled water.  Because of this I just received my case of Voss Water and it will be the only water coming out of the studio from this point on.  The product is something I believe in from the killer bottle, to the taste (it’s one of the purest waters available on the planet Earth), to the brand Voss puts out.  I have done posts before on brands that I love and that I use because I believe in them, and this is yet another.  Because of the popularity of water in the studio for meetings and people just coming over, I’ve decided to start using Voss exclusively.  Do yourself a favor and check this company out… or just hang at the studio more :)
