Nicole and Scott e-shoot album

November 30th, 2006

I just finished Nicole and Scott’s e-shoot album, and I thought I’d post some sample pages.  I find myself doing more and more engagement albums…. and I love it!  Check these out and I’ll post more as I finish them.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving :)

being thankful

November 23rd, 2006

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving with their loved ones today.  I think it’s easy to just lay around the couch, watch football, and stuff our faces without actually taking any time to consider the being thankful portion of the day.  I know I used to do that as well, but spending so much time with Alisha has forced me to not take so many things for granted.  Mostly just because Alisha doesn’t allow me to do it!  Don’t just take good things in our lives for granted… very much something I have learned from her.  So today I wanted to write about 2 things that I am thankful for on Thanksgiving -

1. My friendships with my good friends Jason Groupp, Frank DiMeo, and their families.  Frank has 2 beautiful children and an amazing wife, while the Groupp-man and his awesome wife are expecting their first child next year.  Getting to know these 2 families and spend so much time together with them over the past year has really taught me so much about relationships, children, and family.  Obviously I am one driven person who’s main focus is on business and success… and it’s been that way for a while.  Which is great, and I love that.  But being around these 2 successful photographers has shown me that there is a different purpose for success.  It’s not just because they want to be great or popular of financially secure (although those things are obviously nice for all of us!)… at the end of the day those are a very distant second place to the excitement of being with their families and wives.  That is something I may not have fully appreciated a year ago, but something I have grown a lot of respect for in the last year.  So I am very thankful that I have these 2 as friends, and also from what I have learned from them.

2. Alisha.  Obviously LOL!  Take everything I wrote above and multiply it times 50 for #2 on my list.  What we’ve developed over the past 10 months has been incredible, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.  Except maybe the Lions finally having a winning season and hoisting the Lombardi trophy.  Just kidding baby :P  No really I would have never ever expected myself to be in a serious relationship a year ago… especially one where I am playing a father figure role in the life of a 2 year old!!!  WOW.  But I had a great talk with Stephanie last night (my bride from Oct. 7th and now good friend) and she said something very true… and something many people on this site can relate too….. sometimes things or people come along in our lives that we aren’t ready for… but can’t live without.  Her and Leo started dating but she moved to NC soon after because she was in her 20s and wanted to do her own thing.  Man can I relate to that.  Leo moved down there a year later…. that was 10 years and one wedding ago.  Sometimes big changes in our lives are about to come even when we aren’t ready.  Alisha and I are examples of that in both of our lives.

Anyway, I hope this finds many of you well on Thanksgiving.  I also hope the freakin 2-8 Lions can at least give me some joy on Turkey Day with a win over the Dolphins!!!!  C’mon guys!!!!

I’m def. thankful to have you and Lillie my life!
    Much love.

  2. jason groupp:

    Happy Thanksgiving dude.

5AM – Get up start brine (I am a freak for fowl) for Turkey.
7AM – put Turkey in oven.
8AM – Start preparing other food.
    2:30 – Family arrives.
    9PM – Family leaves.
10PM – feet up cuddling with my Wife -crying while reading your blog aloud. I am a such a sap. :)

Whew! What a day. Thanks man. I have much to be thankful for, but having you as my friend is at the top of the list.

Thanks for a great year, looking forward to 2007!! Sorry about the Lions, Harrrinton had a great day! :)

  3. Frank DiMeo:

Luke, you know you are considered family over at the DiMeo house. Thank you so very much for the wonderful comments. They are very much appreciated. It is awesome to hear that our families have had an effect on you. Just know that you have a special effect on all the lives that you touch too.

Yea, I’ve seen it happen time and again over the years. A good friend falls for someone and you don’t hear from him or her like you used to. It is a sad thing because you really miss that person but at the same time you are happy because they are happy.

I know that Alisha is a very special person. She is someone who cares a lot for the people in her life. She always looks at the good in a situation no matter how bad it seems, and remains level headed through it all no matter what. Her wisdom is beyond her years, and her friendship is a blessing to all. Hmmm, sounds like someone else I know. So yes, you two are different in many ways but alike in so many also.

It helps to relieve the sadness of not seeing your friend so often, when you know and trust that they are in such good hands. We understand that their life is better and wish the best for them.

“Sometimes things or people come along in our lives that we aren’t ready for… but can’t live without.”

These people always come into our lives when we least expect it. Suddenly they are there and it is as if they have always been there. We can’t control when it will happen, but we can recognize it when it does, and grasp it to its full potential. I’m thankful that you have the wisdom to do this, and I’m especially thankful to call you my friend.

    Happy Thanksgiving,

    -Frank

  4. Ali:

Aww! What a sweet post Frank! I’m glad Luke has you as friend and I promise I’ll take good care of him :)

J. Footwear

November 22nd, 2006

A quick fashion update for all the male readers out there… one of my new favorite clothing brands has to be J. Footwear.  Alisha and I first spotted these at a boutique shop that had some hot alternative clothing, and once I saw them I had to see their whole collection.  Ali and I went out to eat afterwards, but I had to go back and look at them once again after we ate!  LOL yes I’m sure you remember that… thanks for being so patient :)  They have a great line though, I’m really loving these guys.  I have a favorite shoe store I love in the city around 8th and 38th from which I have literally 5 pairs of their shoes, and Aldo shoes are great too (they are what I wear at weddings), but I really like this J. collection as more of a casual and comfortable alternative.  The only place I have been able to find them online is at Zappos (surprisingly).  So for any of you who don’t know what to get me for the holidays, Zappos’ gift certificates could bring some holiday cheer :)  Check out some of their samples….

I don’t know why you just didn’t buy those shoes when we were at the loop.

  2. Neil Cowley:

Nice, retro feel. I prefer the punkish look of my Fluevogs, and I have to just take a moment to point out that since there are so few points to mens clothing options – shoes are definately key – you’re right.

Happy Birthday Alisha

November 21st, 2006

I want to wish a Happy Birthday to my beautiful girlfriend Alisha Clark today.  Unfortunately we don’t get to spend the day together since she is in St. Louis through Thanksgiving, but we are getting together next week for a couple weeks and will celebrate away :)

Also, I wanted to mention Alisha has launched her new boudoir site… so check it out if you get a chance.

Happy Birthday baby and see you soon!

congrats to Cassie and Josef

November 19th, 2006

I had the pleasure of photographing Cassie and Josef’s wedding at the Belhurst Castle in the Finger Lakes Region on Saturday.  I actually met Cassie and Josef last year at Cassie’s brother’s wedding in August at the Esperanza Mansion (which of course I photographed).  Cassie put a couple of the images on her blog at the time (aren’t blogs great?) and had some very nice words, so I got a hold of her to thank her and we started talking about her wedding not that long after.

Anyway, the day went off very well and was quite beautiful when you factor in what the weather can be like in November in NY at times.  We had some nice soft diffuse light, a beautiful church, and an intimate candle light reception at the Castle.  Thanks so much you two and enjoy!

Love the first kissing shot and the toast shot. Looks like some awesome reception lighting too, oh wait is that just you agian?

  2. Neil Cowley:

I took the week off so I didn’t post my images yet – my fav is the groom smiling with the mic. Shows a lot of personality, which is always tough.

  3. Juls:

As a person who wanted to be there and didn’t get to go to the wedding thank you for showing me a little insight into a very important day for my friends! By the way I really like the last one. I think it show how devoted josef is to cassie and how much he makes her smile. As a friend of Cassi’es that is something I love to see. I really enjoy the picture of him with the mic though too!

picture of the week

November 15th, 2006

Ok… the picture of the week entries resume :)

This weeks entry comes from Morgan and John’s wedding back in July.  Ever since I heard they were driving from their ceremony to the reception through back country roads in a convertible…. I had this shot in my mind.  I kind of wish I had a shot of us actually making this shot happen because I’m sure it looked hilarious.  On the way there I asked John to slow down as we passed this patch of nice shaded-even light, and I stood up in the backseat as we drove and as they laughed away.  I could tell they had the "holy crap we just got married" giggles going on, and you can just see it in Morgan’s glowing look at John while they are holding hands.  As I edited through the images this one instantly stuck out to me, and with a little help from my main man Tim Beckford we were able to tweak the image to give just the look I wanted.

more album designs

November 10th, 2006

I have finished a design for Poornima and Farooq, and I wanted to post up a couple more of my favorite spreads.  I’m sure I could make 10 straight posts of album designs, so I’ll probably stop posting them for right now, however if you haven’t made your order yet and you are visiting the blog… use these 2 entries as a hint that this is your best time to make album orders :)

Enjoy!

albums

November 8th, 2006

Tis the season for….. album designs.  Right now my focus is getting album designs out to everyone who has requested an album as of last week.  I know everyone is reminded of taking care of their albums around this time, so I just expect the flood that comes in every year.  This year is of course no different!

I just finished Megan and Matt’s design last night so I am going to post a couple of my favorite spreads.  Enjoy!

Rose Events

November 7th, 2006

I wanted to make another vendor post today pimping the services of one of the best planner services I’ve ever worked with…. Rose Events.  Ruchir and Vaishali are the masters behind Rose Events and they really are amazing planners.  I worked with them on Monica Shah’s gorgeous wedding last year and they impressed me so much that I have kept in touch and recommended them to others.  Ruchir and Vaishali specialize in Indian weddings, but I believe they can plan just about anything.  Here are a couple images from the last wedding we worked -

photoplus party

November 6th, 2006

Sorry for the blog disappearance everyone!  The last 2 weeks have probably been the craziest and busiest I’ve ever had, and I’m just not starting to get back to normal.  I’ll have some blog catching up to do of course :)

The first post is about our NYC party on Wednesday November 1st.  Jason, Alisha, and I combined forces to throw a networking party the night before the PhotoPlus Expo at Jason’s studio.  We originally expected a decent turnout, probably around 50 people or so, but the party started a little bit of a buzz and we knew about a week before the party that this was going to be a fairly large event.  All in all I think between 125-150 showed up at some point before the night was over, and I know people had a great time.  The event definitely turned out to be a who’s who of the photo industry.

Thanks so much for coming out everyone, and we promise next year we will try to one-up ourselves!

PS- I don’t have nearly the amount of images as I’d like, but that’s what happens when it’s a really good party.

Where did you get those pics from? I did not see you take any pictures! :) Great party man. I think the “ExpoTini” fest was a hit and soon to become an annual tradition!

  3. Scarlett:

Awwww fun times! Wish I could have made it!!

  4. Neil Cowley:

I was rather surprised when I got there and the big black guy at the door was like ‘hey, you on the list’ and I had to flash him my nine to convince him to let me in. I thought I’d be there to catch up with ya’ll but it was wall to wall. I’ll come again next year if its a belated haloween costume party.
