branding site

March 28th, 2007

I told you all when my new site and business look was released that much of the credit was due to the guys over at Elevation.  Well, today they finally launched their new site -

I’m very proud to be featured on their portfolio section as well.  I highly encourage all the business owners and decision makers to cruise their new site… even just for inspiration!

recent email

March 25th, 2007

I’d like to share a recent email I received from someone that I thought was different and very cool.  I think many of us photographers receive emails from people who love our work from time to time and it’s always something I truly appreciate.  This email was from a person who just recently came across my site and emailed me about my work and the profession of photography in general -

If I may send you one more thought….and I’m not some weirdo that will keep
on about it.  I just wanted to give you some feedback about your profession.

There were several Indian tribes that never wanted their photos taken…they
believed it would capture their souls….I believe in some ways, they were dead
on correct.
I do not see photography as an art…but as an ultimate
emotion…because for 1 tiny mil-second you, the photographer, can capture a
moment unforeseen by the naked eye.

Just the right shot and a person will gaze at a photo longer than if the real
person was standing right in front of them, just the right shot and a person
will break down and cry. Just the right shot and a person can sit with a photo
and remember a life time together, sharing their souls, long after the other is
gone.  You see..I think the Indians had something going there.

What an excellent and true perception of what you do. You certainly captured the emotion and feelings of our wedding day!! I could stare at our pictures for hours (and have on more than one occasion!).

  2. Damion Hamilton:

    Luke,
Man that is just it!! What an amazingly accurate email! It is so true. Photography is just like many of the arts such as music & paintings. They all make a deep emotional connection with the soul and can instantly recall nastalic feelings as deep and and as far back as our childhood with one note, color or image.
Thanks for sharing that email Luke. Very inspiring to me!

  3. Frank DiMeo:

Awesome email Luke! Have to love it when people understand and can see the difference.

Hope all is well and things are rockin. I’m looking forward to breaking bread together some time soon.

    wow – cool email!

marathon boudoir session

March 21st, 2007

A couple weeks ago Alisha and I had the opportunity to do a marathon boudoir session, and it was a blast!  Definitely a ton of work, and we just about crashed on the couch of the loft towards the end of the session, but we both really like boudoir photography and I think as a team we are even better.  I have the photography background for work like this and Alisha has the feminine view of things that is just something you can’t teach.  Plus her and I have a ton of chemistry together when we shoot…. which I think helps everyone ease up around us :)

I am going to post up some of my favorite shots from the session, but from now on I think I am going to post boudoir shots (that people are alright sharing of course) on a separate page and link from my blog to that page.  I do realize some of you really like seeing the boudoir work, but I imagine that some of you who visit this blog may or may not want to see boudoir photography… so to honor that I will still post images in the future, but a person will have to click on the link to see anything.

Bella Figura

March 19th, 2007

I just received a sample invitation to Nicole and Scott’s wedding, done by Bella Figura, and I have to admit… they have outdone themselves.  I was first introduced to them when Megan and Matt (married last year at the Aurora Inn) used them for their invitations and when I saw them I was very impressed.  Nicole has obviously used them as well and once again… I am very impressed!!

Below are some pictures of Nicole’s invitation, and to see more of Bella Figura visit here

congrats to Ruth and Adam

March 17th, 2007

Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting Ruth and Adam’s wedding at the W in Union Square.  You might remember Ruth from Maggie and Kevin’s wedding images from last year, as Ruth and Maggie are cousins.  Of course Maggie’s images are also featured on my website as well :)

It’s funny because I’ve told Maggie that I don’t think I could ever get weather as great as she had that day again, but considering Ruth’s wedding was in March… she might have lucked out even more!  The day was beautiful, with a hint of sunshine all afternoon, and warm temperatures.  It’s not often we can go outside for a long period of time for portraits in March!

Considering we had some great weather to work with, the W is gorgeous, and Ruth was truly one of those radiant brides (I’m not just saying that, just look at the images!)…. I am excited to show these off.

Special thanks to Jason Groupp once again, it’s always a pleasure to shoot by your side my friend.

Just released on their blog today, I have an article about me over at the New York Wedding Photographer blog.  The purpose of the blog is to "highlight professional wedding photographers that service the New York Tristate area."

I’m of course excited to be on the site, and I want to thank Christos for featuring me.

congrats to Kelli and Steve

March 15th, 2007

I had the pleasure of shooting Kelli and Steve’s wedding on March 3rd with Alisha.  A cold front seemed to move in just for that one day, but as always we made the best of the weather and came out with some sweet shots.  I want to thank Kelli and Steve for being up for anything we suggested, Alisha for having me, and Sabrina for her help with the coordination.

birthday

March 14th, 2007

As many of you know, last Friday March 9th was my birthday.  Thank you to all who called, sent emails, texts, PMs, comments, and every other form of communication out there.  I really appreciated the kind words and wishes from many of my friends… it’s always a good feeling when we have many people who love us and who brighten our day.

While I didn’t get to spend the actual day of March 9th with Alisha, her and I did go out and Luke2257
celebrate my birthday earlier in the week together.  We’ve been so busy with things we never really got to celebrate our anniversary right and knew we weren’t going to be together for my birthday… so we decided to go out to one of our favorite places to eat, and then she treated me to a nice hotel room with some black jack until 4am at the casino.  Just seeing her in this cute outfit above was enough of a present for me!  But the dinner and casino was right up my alley as well :)  I do love me some black jack.

I also wanted to thank Jason and Liz Groupp for the awesome dinner the night of my actual birthday.  The Thai food and ice cream cake was about as custom of a dinner as it gets for me!

Chloe

March 13th, 2007

Let the blog flood gates open!

During the last crazy 10 days of what felt like non-stop shooting, I had the chance to photograph one of the cutest babies ever with Alisha!  Baby Chloe was such a pleasure to shoot, and made our job so enjoyable.  I have to admit I haven’t done a ton of kids sessions, but spending so much time with Lillie has really made me partial to "little shavers" (it’s what my father always calls kids).  It helps when you get a baby like Chloe though, she was seriously a ham in front of the camera!

Thank you to Cassie for allowing us to photograph your beautiful baby, and to Alisha for inviting me into the small world of kids (which seems to involve the word momma, cookies, sleeping, crying, and Elmo).

la-vie album

March 5th, 2007

As I mentioned in the previous post, I am excited to be adding La-Vie albums to packages starting in 2008.  La-Vie is an album company I learned about a year ago, and as soon as I thumbed through one of their albums I knew I had to add this company to my product line.  I take pride in offering products that are of the highest quality, and also just some of the coolest stuff out there :)

The thing that drew me to La-Vie the most was how it blended a timeless feel with a contemporary edge to it.  I know New York can be a somewhat conservative market when it comes to weddings, so having an option in the matted album mold was important to me…. yet I couldn’t really find anything that really knocked me out.  La-Vie was finally that company.  Everything about the album is completely customized and put together by hand.  Pages fold out, flip out, have cut outs, and have fabrics on the pages to match the photographs.

Even though La-Vie will be an option in most packages starting in 2008, if any of my 2007 couples would like to make a substitution I am happy to work with you on that.

Here is a link to their website, and some images from a recent album -

    Luke,
We were just checking their website out the other day. The product is just amazing. There is really nothing like it out there. We’ll be looking into offering their product line as well here in the near future. Let me know how everything goes with your first order.
    Hope all is well!
    Blessings,
    Damion

  2. Dan Watkins:

    Nice selection — LaVie rocks!

Sorry I missed your lunch w/ Pam B. this week…we’ll have to try to hook-up next time you’re in town.
