Happy Halloween!

October 31st, 2008

It's funny how life seems to start to come full circle the older you get.  I remember always looking forward to Halloween because I'd go trick-or-treating with my friends on the block and how awesome it was.  Then as I got older Halloween was awesome because of all the sick parties that it brought.  Now at this point in my life with Lillie, I'm back to looking forward to heading out for candy… I'm back to thinking of Halloween as a fun activity for kids and candy.  Does that mean I'm starting to grow up a little finally?

Tonight we took Lillie trick-or-treating and then we had a little family night out at a hockey game afterwards.  Because Lillie plays pirate all the time with the boys in her school (I think we might be in trouble later in life) we dressed her as a pirate this year.
I told her she looked like a "scaaaary pirate!" but she said "no, I'm a pretty pirate."  Girls are so different than boys.

Even though we're professional photographers we still love to get cheesy "we love our kid" parent shots :)

We wanted to go out to family night and watch the local team in Albany after all the candy gathering.  During warm ups one of the players flipped the puck over the glass for Lillie which made her night!  Don't mind the headband… that's what it looks like after about hour 5 of wearing the costume.

I hope everyone enjoyed Halloween!  An awesome little video soon to follow.

runway summary

October 30th, 2008

Once again I was hired by The Knot to shoot most of the major runway that happened a little less than 2 weeks ago and I had a blast doing it.  They've been hiring me for a couple years now and I have to admit it's pretty neat being the main runway photographer for such an industry powerhouse.  While I could never shoot runway full time (I'd probably get burned out by 30), I do enjoy the 4 weeks of it I shoot per year.  It breaks things up for me, it's always an exciting and challenging atmosphere, and best of all I get to see so many of my friends and contacts in the wedding and fashion industry.  The 2 weeks I shoot for The Knot (the other two weeks I shoot for Wedding Style) are always especially cool because I usually have a pretty good spot saved for me at most shows.

Getting to see the newest looks before anyone else from designers like Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra is just one of the perks, but the behind the scenes, and the dinners, and personal touches (like Alisha getting to meet her dress designer) are what make it such a cool experience.  Because I've been shooting the bridal fashion week (formally called market week or just market) for a couple years now I have a pretty good feel for everything going on.  I'm hoping next time to give an in depth behind the scenes look of what it's like not only for us as photo/video, but also from the editors and press as well.

Thanks for checking out the runway stuff on The Knot, and thank you to The Knot ladies (who I consider pretty good friends) for having such confidence in me and for making my work such a prominent part of the magazine (it's totally my honor).

e-shoot with Jenn and John

October 28th, 2008

Jenn and John might have some familiar faces at this point.  With a gallery on the website, a long blog entry, and sample album in the studio… they are mini celebs over here in the office :)  We had been trying to coordinate schedules and also work around Mother Nature, and were finally able to put something together while I was down in the city for Market Week.  I've been wanting to do an e-shoot at night for a while now and these two are practically models so getting together for a cool night shoot in Columbus Circle was on tap for us.

Annie and Dan’s e-shoot

October 26th, 2008

Last week, before I went down to the city for Market Week, I was able to get together with Annie and Dan to take advantage of the awesome Fall season before we totally lost it.  Annie and Dan are one of those couples that I've gotten to know well throughout the process and I regard more as friends at this point than as clients.  They even helped us in our search when we moved up here :)

congrats to Andrea and Rob

October 23rd, 2008

I apologize for the slight delay in getting this up but I really haven't been in the office all week due to shooting Market Week for The Knot.  As much as I love shooting the runways it's always tough for me during the 2 fashion weeks in the Fall because we have so much going on.  I was really excited to post Andrea and Rob's wedding and I know I have a lot of people patiently waiting to check these out, so enjoy!

Yes, for those of you keeping track my "really hot bride" streak continues!

Thanks so much for being so awesome to work with you two!  I really appreciate you trusting me to be your photographer, and for the awesome dinner :)  Stay tuned to the Lillie Studios Blog to see the wedding trailer video which should be done sometime next week.

meet your dress designer

October 22nd, 2008

It's not often you get to meet and chat about your dress with the actual designer.  Alisha and I were lucky enough to do that this week as we got to spend a little bit of time with Elizabeth Fillmore after her show on Sunday.

Alisha is wearing an Elizabeth Fillmore dress that she absolutely fell in love with about 2 months ago and came home talking about nonstop.  It's a chantilly lace, A line dress, with an ivory color (we also added in a Monique Lhuillier sash).  When she started calling it "the one" I knew it was going to be the dress she wore regardless of what I thought… I mean she doesn't even call me "the one" :)

I thought it was very cool of Elizabeth Fillmore to take a minute to talk with Alisha about her dress and grab a picture at her show when there are a ton of buyers and press she could be talking too.  Once she knew Alisha was one of her brides she told us she was honored and sincerely took the time to thank us for choosing her of all the designers we see.  I'm a huge believer in being thankful for the business I get, and showing my appreciate to clients, so seeing her do the same (after a show no less) was really impressive to us.

I am rising from the dead this morning, after getting about no sleep the last couple of days and shooting over 30 hours in the last 3 days.  Be thankful this is a text post and not a video post this morning :)

Anyway, as many of you know I’m in full swing at Market Week right now shooting for The Knot which is always a blast (although a ton of work).  I just checked the site to see how they were coming along in getting my images up and I see the homepage image is one of my shots from the runway:

I realize it’s hard to see the photo credit on the blog because the images aren’t huge, but it’s good to see the work getting online almost instantly.  So far I think the Monique Lhuillier show has been by far the winner for me, she brought it up a notch this season.
