Show and Tell V.2

February 27th, 2009

I had the chance to sit down with Alayne Curtiss of Make Me Fabulous the other day to do another Show and Tell session. For those of you who don’t know, Show and Tell sessions are a way for me to give some exposure and a spotlight to those vendors who I really like and who I think make the industry better. It also gives me a chance to spend a little one on one time and gives the blog readers a chance to learn about someone new.

Alayne is widely regarded in the industry as one of the best and she’s always an absolute pleasure to work with. She knows the importance of making brides look done up enough for the wedding affair, and for pictures, but while making the look beautiful and also making sure everyone is on time. Yea, pretty much every photographers dream scenario!

Check out the video below, done by Chris over at Lillie Studios. Thanks for having us over Alayne and looking forward to working with you more in the future!!

Hi Luke, I met Alayne today at my hair appointment. She’s great! :) I’m so glad you did this Show and Tell.

  2. Dawn:

Make Me Fabulous is an amazing company and Alayne and her staff are simply wonderful. They did all the hair and makeup for my entire wedding party and then some! Luke, this show and tell is an amazing idea! There are so many great vendors and what a wonderful way to showcase them!

video love

February 26th, 2009

While I try to keep most things on this blog related to my personal business, I am co-owner of Lillie Studios so I have to pass along exciting news sometimes :) The videography services offered by Lillie Studios have been a huge hit so far and we expect that trend to continue as we offer solid, quality videography at an affordable price. I think that growth will go through the roof though if we keep getting awesome blog love like THIS straight from one of our brides on the EAD blog. I know I know, I’ve mentioned the EAD blog many times on here before… but I love the blog and more importantly I love the people behind it.

You’ll definitely want to check out the article, as well as Cyd’s personal blog, and as always the Lillie Studios blog. Thanks for writing about Lillie Studios Cyd and thanks for posting it Ami!

Happy Anniversary

February 19th, 2009

It’s been a long week so far with both myself and Alisha out of the office, and I’m actually happy to be back and diving into all these emails and open projects. After the dust settles this afternoon though and I’m done pecking away we are heading out to celebrate our anniversary :)

Even though Ali is from St. Louis and I’m from NY, we actually met out in Los Angeles of all places. We instantly became friends and were good friends for at least 6 months before we actually started dating. She is still, and hopefully will always be my actual best friend. Her and I always go new places and try new things together because we just love hanging out. She’s so fun to be around and has without a doubt made my life 10 times more fun and interesting. I love having someone in my life to share so many new and exciting experiences with.

Happy Anniversary babe and see you later tonight for a date!

engagement shoots of 2008

February 11th, 2009

It’s about that time to update my website again before the craze of 2009 starts up for me. My 09 season starts into full effect in just 2 weeks if you can believe it or not, the year gets kicked off early for me this year! I always keep my website fresh with new wedding work, but I haven’t been updating the engagement shoots so I wanted to add some in tonight. As I was going through my e-shoots I decided to flag a couple and then post them on my blog since there is such an array of shooting conditions. I want my couples to know that no matter what conditions we end up with (regardless of whether it’s the wedding or the e-shoot) I will always be able to work with them to deliver beautiful images.

Even in the pouring rain:

Or shooting at night:

And in parks:

Props are always fun:

So are snuggles:

Casual works too:

Snow is fine:

Of course so is the sun:

Standing can be fun:

So can sitting:

And romantic never goes out of style:

And this is just a quick summary for 2008. Looking forward to continually delivering new work, pushing boundaries, and really just having fun with my couples even more in 2009!!

I love all of these shots, but especially the first one in the downpour…because what bride doesn’t fear rain on her wedding day? I sure do!

blogosphere

February 11th, 2009

The internet and it’s power is sometimes just absolutely crazy. The speed in which an idea and/or information can be spread around is amazing to me sometimes. This is one of those times. Alisha and I posted our save the dates yesterday and within 8 hours we had our (aka Alisha’s) idea blasted all over the blogosphere. Here are just some of the links:

absolutely awesome save the dates

February 10th, 2009

I have to admit, the wedding planning has been a bit of drag sometimes because there just seems to be this laundry list of things that never ends. Being the co-owner of a couple businesses I’m the type of person who loves checking things off my lists, but it never seems to end with the wedding. Every once in a while we get something in like we did today though with the save the dates. I absolutely love these. So unique, different, and just an awesome idea by Alisha. Our wedding and style definitely has a bit of a vintage feel to it, vintage with an elegant touch (at least that’s the goal). These old style hankies with our date and info printed of them just totally sum up the vibe perfectly. Each handkerchief is totally different from the rest and I love knowing that each save the date going out is unique to the person receiving it.

Thanks goes to Alisha for the idea, Sabrina for being the glue that brought this together (and who got most of the hankies), and Erin for the printing.

new fashion shoot

February 9th, 2009

This weekend I was asked to be the lead on a fashion shoot here in Albany. A clothing designer in LA, Patrick DiLascia, decided to come back to Albany and have his new line photographed in an old world style bakery back in Upstate where he’s from. I was contacted by his PR person, Megan Baker (www.bakerpublicrelations.com), to do the shoot and we made it happen over this past weekend. To give you a little more flavor behind the shoot here is an excerpt from the national press release:

L.A. DESIGNER CHOOSES ALBANY BAKERY FOR UPCOMING PHOTO SHOOT

ALBANY, N.Y.—When Los Angeles, California fashion designer Patrick DiLascia had to choose a location for an upcoming photo shoot to launch his new clothing line, he thought of his home and childhood. Patrick’s Italian immigrant grandfather, Donato DiLascia, opened DiLascia’s Bakery in 1939 in Binghamton, fulfilling his lifelong dream. Although DiLascia’s closed its doors in 1997, Patrick wanted to remember his grandfather’s legacy. He has done that with a unique line of t-shirts and pants carrying the DiLascia’s Bakery moniker. The new line will debut at The MAGIC Marketplace at the Las Vegas Convention Center February 17-19.

When Patrick was thinking of a location that best represents what it was his grandfather had envisioned, Prinzo’s Bakery in Albany came to mind. He used to frequent the old, vintage style bakery on Delaware Avenue. “We are delighted to have been asked to take part in the upcoming photo shoot and receive this type of exposure. I know it’s something my father, Carmen, would have appreciated as well,” says owner Joseph Prinzo. Prinzo’s is well-known for its fresh baked Italian bread and represents the old-world quality that Patrick has come to expect. Local photographer Luke Walker, of Luke Walker Photography (www.lukewalkerphotography.com) will oversee the shoot on Saturday, February 7.

Here are a couple sample images as I’m editing to get these out tonight.

the new lilliestudios.com

February 5th, 2009

I’ve been working on this project for a while now, and I’m very excited to get it finished and launched for all of the interested couples out there. Lillie Studios is our sister company that Alisha and I own and run together. It’s specialty is offering top level videography to the Upstate NY region, but we also offering a photobooth feature as well. In addition we offer photography packages with our employees at a more modest price range too. Better yet…. just check out the site!

We’ve had great luck with the videography addition to Lillie Studios and I think the comments some of our brides have left indicate how much positive feedback we’ve had with it. We stole Chris away from ESPN to come be a part of our team (he was too young and creative to be a part of a huge corporation anyway!) and it’s been an exciting combo. We’re looking forward to doing video on many more weddings in 2009, including weddings from Long Island to Hawaii (and many places in between).
